Cree Sahidah believes art shouldn't have any boundaries. 

Do You?

Cree Sahidah, Co-founder & director of Project Human X. She is a self-taught artist from the Chicago suburbs. She enjoys creating with acrylic, watercolor & even 3D Heads that stick out of the canvas.

Educated as an anthropologist, Cree has dedicated herself to alleviating people of their stress by adding beauty to their lives. At Project Human X she teaches art classes, helps entrepreneurs create success, hosts community events and more.
Her personal artwork often entails women going through the human experience.
Her pieces vary from soft to explicit, showing the reality of womanhood. 
"Womanhood may be painful, but it is the kind of pain I appreciate. There are times I've cried tears of joy when I received my period. Not because I was happy I was not pregnant, but because I was simply a woman. Simply me. I wouldn't trade that kind of beautiful pain for the world". - Cree Sahidah

We Asked Cree A Few Questions To Learn More About Her Views On Art:

Who are you & what do you do?

My name is Cree Sahidah. I am a mother, wife, entrepreneur, artist and so much more. 

Why art?

We might as well ask Why do we have a soul? Why art? Because art is everything. I know it sounds broad and I dislike vague and broad concepts but this one is fitting. Art. Is. Everywhere. It's your clothes, the way you comb your hair, your vocabulary, the way you walk. I chose art because art is endless because our imaginations have no beginning nor an end. Art is innate and is embedded in our history. We humans were destined to create & I refuse to turn my back on my human instincts. 

What is the best part about being an artist?

The freedom.

What is your dream project?

Oh boy. I can only pick one? I can't do that. I HAVE to pick two. First one is to build Project Human X art centers all over the world. I want to provide a space where people can thrive. I fantasize having vertical farms, gallery spaces & dance studios in these art centers. A rooftop garden. Maybe a coffee shop. But nonetheless, a space that provides well being to the community no matter how much money an individual has. I want EVERYONE to experience it. And my second dream? To go back to Madagascar & visit the children I worked with in the Kelilalina villages. I want to bring Project Human X there & I want to give. 

What is the best advice you've gotten as an artist or the most important thing you've learned?

To just do it dammit. There is no right or wrong when it comes to art. THAT'S what makes it so much fun. You do not need to know how to draw, how to hold a paintbrush or go to art school to become a successful artist. The only difference between successful and unsuccessful artists is one group decided not to give up.
