Art Instructor / Art Instructor Assistant

Job details

Compensation:  $12 - $25 an hour

  • We are looking for a highly social & energetic individual to work with us as an independent contractor teaching acrylic artwork in a casual and party / celebratory environment. The hours this position works will depend on the marketing and sales efforts made by the employee. Each artist is responsible for advertising themselves and our services. Must be able to guide classes to paint an acrylic painting within two to three hours. You must be able to closely duplicate our paintings and have guests leave the event feeling happy from the experience. This position is ideal for someone who has a flexible schedule and who wants to earn extra money through an uplifting, creative outlet. 
    *This is not a full time job, or a primary source of income, although the pay and
    freedom we offer to our team is something to take pride in.
    Compensation levels: Pay is dependent on how many guests are present for the event
    $12 an hour: 1-25 guests
    $15 an hour: 25-50 guests
    $25 an hour: 50+ guests
    Duties and Responsibilities Include: Setting up for class, clean-up, checking in customers,  painting ideas for future events, travel to offsite locations to help collaborate with events, mural painting, hosting fundraisers, sketching canvases, cleaning/upkeep of the gallery space, joining arts & craft markets to sell artwork, socializing with customers, taking pictures & videos for social media, promoting
    events, and enjoy the experience!
    *Events primarily take place on the weekends

    Art Gallery Receptionist / Art Curator

    PAINTING DESIGNER 

    (Artist: Cassi Namoda)
     
    This position is a fun one. You can paint at PHX Studios, in your home, on vacation, wherever you feel the most inspired! 
     
    Compensation
    • $20 per painting (should take approximately 1 hour to complete each painting)
     
    • Couples paintings = $40 
     
    • You will receive $10 extra if you create a video to go along with the painting steps. In order to do this you must have a tripod for your smart phone device or camera. Hang the camera overhead your painting so we can clearly see the steps. 
     
    • Once the painting is finished, the original is yours to keep. We only ask to use the design, the directions and photos/videos of the painting. You are free to do whatever you’d like with the painting. You can sell it and make even more money! Please make sure to sign your artwork.
     
    Painting Requirements:
    • Each painting must take 9-12 steps to complete
     
    • Each painting must be complete between 1.5 - 2.5 hours 
     
    • Each painting must be completed with these ONLY these 4 brushes (or less): Round tip brush, small square brush, large square brush and fan brush. You are welcome to get create and use a paper-towel as a “brush” for different painting effects. We do not use any other brushes or materials to complete paintings.
     
    • You must write every step of the painting. Describe which paint brush is being used in each step, what colors you mixed and the motion used (ex: side-to-side, short dabs, circular motions, etc). Please be as detailed as possible.
     
    • You must take high quality aerial photographs of the painting steps (you can use an iPhone or camera to complete this). Make sure the pictures have plenty of light so we can clearly see the steps. If the pictures are not clear we will not use the painting. 
     
    • Painting concepts should be relaxing and fun! Please no profanity, controversial topics, sexual content or religious affiliation. 
     
    Keep in Mind:
    • Do your best to stay “relevant to the times” with painting concepts. For example, if Star Wars is becoming popular, create a Star Wars themed painting. 
    • Create seasonal paintings. Creating paintings that revolve around holidays are always useful. (Example: Christmas tree in a truck, autumn pumpkins, fathers/Mother’s Day themed painting, Veterans Day painting, black history month paintings, Halloween themed paintings, ornament painting, reindeer etc. When winter comes around, we paint more winter themed landscapes. The same goes for autumn, summer and spring.
     
    Things Tips to Consider: 
    Overall look
    • Does the painting look finished?
    • Is there ‘unity’ in the painting, does everything tie together well?
    • Does the composition work? Does it fit well on the page?
    • Does the whole painting ‘pop’ off the paper?
    • Where is your eye drawn to?
    Subject representation
    • Is the subject easily recognisable?
    • Does the subject look true to life?
    • Does the subject look three-dimensional?
    • Do the colors look believable?
    • Are the colours vibrant?
    Values
    • Does the painting use a range of tonal values to create contrast?
    • Do the values used provide depth?
    • Are there highlights to represent the light and show form?
    • Are the dark areas dark enough?
    • Do the midtones unite the light and dark values well?
    Brush technique
    • Have realistic visual textures been achieved?
    • Are the brushstrokes ‘painterly’ and identifiable as brushstrokes, or hidden to create a realistic look?
    • How neat and crisp are the subject’s edges?
    • Are any straight lines straight enough?
    • Has a light touch been used to capture detail where it’s needed?
